If you are wondering what Zen Practice is, these ongoing classes are a practical introduction to the practice, history and philosophy of Zen Buddhism, from its origins in India 2,500 years ago, to its living practice in our modern world.
Every third Sunday of the month
May 22nd
12:30 to 2:00pm
Ages 12 and Above
The classes will cover the basics of meditation posture, how to handle thoughts during meditation, basic breathing practices, and spend some time sitting in Zazen (Zen meditation), as well as sharing some stories from the rich history of Zen, and a discussion of how this ancient practice is deeply relevant to our lives today.
Classes will include 25 minutes of meditation (zazen), 10 minutes of walking meditation (kinhin), another 25 minutes of zazen, and a chat about zen practice.
There is no cost beyond a voluntary donation to Seriyo Gendelman and his organization.
The workshops will be led by Jacob Seiryo Gendelman, leader of WARWICK ZEN, an affiliate of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center. Jacob is a student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher, Roshi, Abbot of Yokoji, and has been a formal student of Zen for more than 30 years.
WARWICK ZEN is a Zen practice group committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming community offering the practice of Zen to explore and inhabit our lives just as they are-to sit together in silence and awaken to the deep wisdom of our hearts.
All are welcome regardless of experience.
Guests are welcome but space is limited.
