The ballet Coppélia was originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to the music of Léo Delibes. The libretto, written by Charles-Louis-Étienne Nuitter was based on E.T.A Hoffmann's short story The Sandman. The ballet premiered on May 25, 1870 with the Paris Opera Ballet.
