consciousfork and Habitat Spa are (re)launching their platform for local artists within their shared space, kicking off with an Opening Reception for Alanna Floreck’s show “Congruence”.
Sunday, March 13th
4:00 to 6:00pm
“Congruence,” features photography by Alanna Floreck, a graduate of New Paltz, showcasing her eye for the abstract, using natural light to convey a spiritual connection to nature in her photographs.
The reception will be open to the public and is an opportunity to view the show, meet the artist, buy some art, and connect with the community. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
The entire back lounge of more than 400sf of open space, is transformed into the “art lounge,” a seating area and event space with gallery walls for local artists to present their creative visions to the community.
Other viewing opportunities are available on Thursdays and Fridays from 11am to 6pm and other days, which will be communicated via social media and/or when Railroad Ave pedestrians encounter “art lounge open” outside of their storefront.
This program is a continuation from the numerous art shows hosted by consciousfork hosted in their previous space from 2013 to 2019. “We missed the opportunity to connect with local art in our space. There is something so inspiring to see how others choose to express their ideas through the visual arts. We are bombarded with stressful news and political manipulation in our daily media lives, we wanted to re- create a space where members of our community to connect and contemplate life by viewing creative endeavors by the countless talented artists within our community,” said Kim Gabelmann, owner of consciousfork and Habitat Spa.
The shows/artists will be rotated monthly, and hang their own shows and will have the opportunity to have an “opening” where they can invite friends and family plus members of the community to view their work, and hopefully sell some pieces. The business donates the time and space for an event and show, and takes 15% on sales of art, which will be donated back to local artist non-profits, such as Wickham Works and the Orange County Arts Council to keep the cycle going.
“Many local artists have told me they miss our art shows we did regularly when we were operating next door” said Gabelmann “We have a beautiful space, with high ceilings, large walls and great lighting for hanging art. By providing this platform, it’s a way to give back to our community by creating a positive gathering space,” added Gabelmann.
Artists can submit their request for a show and along with samples of their work, by emailing consciousfork@gmail.com
