Lapowinsa, Chief of the Lenape, Lappawinsoe painted by Gustavus Hesselius in 1735

The Story of the Lenape is an historical reenactment by Tom Riley who plays the part of a Lenape warrior.

Sunday, January 29th
1:00pm

Painted for war, he will recount the origins of the Lenape and trace their history from the earliest times, through the colonial period, into the present. Tom will use a power point presentation to discuss how the land of our first in habitants was dispossessed and their way of life destroyed by the arrival of European settlers.

The Friends of Sterling Forest is a non-profit organization established to preserve, protect and foster an appreciation of the natural resources and historical treasures that make up Sterling Forest State Park.

The Friends of Sterling Forest helps with the stabilization, restoration and maintenance of historic buildings and sites within the Park.  Sites such as Southfields Furnace, Sterling Furnace and Sterling Forge, where the Great Chain across the Hudson River was made, are in desperate need of attention.

In addition, the Friends of Sterling Forest host lectures, hikes and special events each month, promoting the Park.  The public is cordially invited to attend these events free of charge.
