Join the Village of Florida in celebrating the 222nd birthday of William Henry Seward; a New York Senator, Governor, U.S. Senator, Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of State, and the driving force behind the purchase of Alaska.
Saturday, May 13th
10:00am
Seward was born in Florida on May 16th, 1801 and went to school in Goshen. His wife, Frances Seward, was a civil rights activist who is finally getting the recognition she deserves. The Village's 2nd Annual Seward Day Parade will be fun for the whole family!
The Florida Historical Society has invited village organizations, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, our Veterans, Florida Fire Dept, etc. Many groups and organizations will be dressed for the 1800's.
After the parade there will be old time games for the children, a whiskers and beard contest, a wreath ceremony at Seward's monument and time to talk to guest legislators, Abe Lincoln and our re-enacters.
Parade will step off from Cohen Circle at 10:00am.
